Summary: 

Art Therapist needed for UNC Health Youth Behavioral Health (YBH), in Butner, North Carolina.

Youth Behavioral Health Hospital (YBH) is a 56-bed, 24-hour, locked psychiatric facility located in Butner, North Carolina. There will be four units dedicated to serving children and adolescent with mental health diagnoses, dual diagnosis, substance misuse and complex behaviors. YBH philosophy is grounded in a milieu-based, trauma-informed and therapeutic setting. This facility aims to serve patients with a complex history, including aggression and psychosis. Safety is the key component of the care provided as well as introduction of positive coping skills, healthy living and positive leisure activities. Therapy services will work among a large interdisciplinary team including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Nursing Services.

We are seeking dynamic, motivated and team-oriented Art Therapist with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multidisciplinary providers and teammates in effective, collaborative practice.

The Art Therapist shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving and productivity enhancement in a flexible team fashion.

This position is 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage requirements.

Highly Preferred:

Experience in hospital based mental health therapy services

 

 

Experience with children and adolescent mental health

 

Responsibilities:

1. Serves as an integral member of a large interdisciplinary team providing direct clinical care to pediatric and adult patients in both 1:1 and group settings.

2. Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic creative/expressive arts principles, techniques, and methods and their application to the population being served.

3. Analyzes comprehensive data from assessments and develops individualized treatment plans in compliance with departmental policies, protocols, standards of regulatory agencies, and professional standards of practice.

4. Educates colleagues and service providers on the role of creative arts therapy in the treatment of medical and mental illness.

5. Develops and document’s patient’s progress and modifies treatment plans with varied interventions based on assessments, interests, objective, and subjective information from patients.

6. Exemplifies quality service provision and manages professional practice through ensuring accountability of exceptional patient care, and compliance with departmental policies, protocols, standards of regulatory agencies, and professional standards of practice.

7. Develops, coordinates and evaluates specialized creative arts programs for specific clinical service areas and engages in evaluation/research and quality improvement activities for the clinical service team and department. Participates in the acquisition and maintenance of supplies, equipment and facility planning.

8. Provides supervision to student interns and volunteers as assigned.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Graduation from AATA (American Art Therapy Association) approved program or related field.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Current board certification in Art Therapy (ATR-BC)
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Experience in the field of creative art therapy is preferred.
